As a company, Top Oil take our corporate and social responsibilities seriously. We direct our sponsorship and donations to support the communities in which we do business. Top Oil contributes over 50k annually to various community initiatives and charities and local depot level.
Our support may be in the form of providing financial support for local projects, schools and fundraising or volunteering devoted to supporting local causes nationwide.
Top Oil has a developed an Corporate Social Responsibility program, where we identify ways in which we can make a difference as part of our everyday operations. On a corporate level, we have partnered with the following organisations;
Junior Achievement Ireland
We know that education is fundamental to people meeting their potential. To continue to provide our customers with exceptional service , we need a well – educated and diverse workforce. At the same time, we know that our people can inspire young people through sharing their skills and experiences. This is why we first partnered Junior Achievement in 2005 and have continued this partnership ever since.
Junior Achievement Ireland inspire and motivate young people to realise their potential by valuing education , this helps them appreciate that by continuing in education they will develop the skills to succeed in the world of work. Through the Junior Achievement Ireland initiative , over a 5/6 week period volunteers from our organisation follow either a Primary or Secondary school programme with local school children. The students range in age from 5 to 18 years of age .By the end of the programmes, students will have enhanced a range of skills needed to succeed in business and will have a better understanding of what local businesses do and the career opportunities that might arise as a result. They will also have a better understanding of the economic benefits which can encourage the students to remain in education.
In 2015, Top Oil and Junior Achievement Ireland celebrated 10 years together. To date 69 Top Oil volunteers have facilitated over 125 programmes and events for over 3,000 Primary and Secondary level students in 58 schools in Carlow , Cavan , Cork , Dublin , Galway , Kilkenny , Mayo , Monaghan , Louth , Roscommon , Sligo . Westmeath and Wicklow. Hundreds of students have also visited Top Oil offices around the country where they were lucky enough to finish their programme with a school to work day. This gives the school children an opportunity to see a real working environment where they can experience the skills they learn first-hand. Our plans are to continue to grow our relationship with Junior Achievement Ireland in the future.
Brother Kevin’s Capuchin Day Centre
The Capuchin day centre for the homeless is located in Bow Street, Dublin. The centre is run by Brother Kevin Crowley and his team of volunteers who provide food and services to over 1000 people per day. The increase in child poverty is very evident in the Day Centre with more families needing to avail of the service. They also have a medical service, chiropody clinics, an optical service and advice and information clinics.
In 2016, 99 cyclists including 10 Top Oil employees cycled 350km as part of ‘Cycle for Brother Kevin’ in aid of Brother Kevin’s Capuchin day centre in Dublin. In addition, throughout the year teams got involved in various levels of fundraising, volunteering and support.
In 2006, Top Oil established a partnership with Rehab Group, Ireland. The Rehab Group is an independent, not-for-profit organisation which provides training, employment, health and social care and commercial services for thousands of people each year in Ireland.
Since our Partnership commenced in 2006, we have been involved in helping to raise funds nationwide for Rehab, with a total figure of over €100,000 raised to date. In 2007 and 2008 we organised a national car wash day held at thirty of our depots and retail sites around the country.
For 2010, Rehab organised a national fundraising event day, called One Day for Rehab. Once again Top Oil are delighted to take part, with various fund raising activities taking place around our network such as luxury hamper raffles, concert ticket auctions, busking and car wash days to name but a few.
All funds raised will continue to go directly back to the local Rehab Centres. Rehab host an annual People of the Year awards. The ceremony is a much sought after event to attend.
Top Oil are very involved in sponsorship of our local clubs in our communities. With many of our staff either former or current players of the sport, we continue to help, support and develop these clubs through sponsorships, golf classics, fund raising events or sponsorship of teams. We are very proud of our involvement with these clubs and will continue to work alongside them in our communities.
In 2016, we announced our two year sponsorship of the Leinster Schools GAA championships, supporting over 400 schools and 1500 matches being played within the competition across Ireland. In addition, Top Oil are proud to have had more than eight all Ireland medal winners working directly as part of our team over the years too!
Health, Safety & The Environment
In an industry that is highly legislated, the tendency is to focus on compliance led CSR initiatives such as HSA and Environmental legislation.
While we work hard to ensure compliance with our obligations as a petroleum supplier, we also strive to be innovative and to seek to implement CSR initiatives that are led by company values and by the developing values of our customer base.
In 2008 Top Oil launched our Green Fuels Products. Our depots, which were traditionally “fossil fuel focused” now stock carbon neutral wood pellets and heat logs, E5 bio-ethanol, Biodiesel, Cleanburn Home Heating Oil, and Dipetane Fuel Treatments.
While the market for these products is currently small, we are striving to become the supplier of choice for these products. We believe that it’s our responsibility to help build the momentum towards a tipping point in the green fuels market.
